Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is this game?

We all know about fandoms. We might go about playing Ron Weasley from "Harry Potter" or maybe Bella Swan from "Twilight". Some of us might choose to play Wash from Firefly or maybe you would prefer Colonel Tigh from Battlestar Galactica. Fandoms are great and are exactly what a lot of role playing thrives upon. However, where is the role playing fandom for classic novels, plays, epic poems, short stories?

That is what we are. We give you the chance to play those characters that you might otherwise not be able to touch because of a lack of Shakespearean games, but with a modern twist.

Can I play a character that isn't on the list?

Quite simply the answer to that is no. While we know that there are a whole slew of characters that we didn't even come near to touching upon while making our list of premades, we took a lot of time to think out the different characters to involve so that we did not have too many of the same sort of personality.

Related to this question, we also will not be allowing you to change the general bits that we show in the short description of each premade. While we know that you might interpret a character to be a bit different than we might, there are reasons that we went a certain direction with each character. While you might see a character we have under the category of hometown hick as a basketball star, we made the decision to make that character that way and we will not allow them to be changed in any way. We did this in order to ensure that we would not have to worry about having an overwhelming amount of a certain sort of high school stereotype. It's not quite as much fun to play when all of the characters are popular Queen Bees with no one to make snide comments about, wouldn't you agree?

Could you explain the journals to me?

To be quite frank, the journals are simple online journals much like LiveJournal or InsaneJournal. The difference is that the only people who will be able to use the journals on the system are current students at Apple Creek Senior High. They students will need a school email address in order to sign into them. They don't have a lot of the more exciting features that other journals might have. For example, there are no personal icons that can be used on each entry (although, we do ask that you use PB icons). However, the students were allowed to pick their own journal names - of course, they had to be approved by a teacher, so anything with swear words or the like certainly were shot down.

Students are also able to make things private, however it is an all or nothing sort of situation. Basically, a student is unable to make half of a journal entry private to their best friend and the other half public. This is just like with LJ or IJ where you are able to have groups saved that you can filter entries to. Also, a student cannot obviously strike things out in journal entries and have them not be unseen. However, feel free to use the strike html in order to show what your student wrote and then deleted.

When a student makes an entry or comment, their journal name will show up. They are not able to make anything anonymous and this is primarily because the teachers would like to be able to see any potential places where harassment might come into play and they would also like to know who is behind it if it does happen.

For a more in depth explanation as to what the journals are and why the students are using them, please look over here.

Can my character only be friends/enemies with the ones you specified?

Of course not! You are more than welcome to go outside of the social boundaries that we make for each of the premades in their little blurbs or even outside of the social circles that they fall within. The social connections we give each character is more in order for us to be able to ensure that there is history and plot for all of the characters on our cast list and it also is to make it easier on you, the player, to find that plot and history.

But, by all means, please make other connections. This is a game and it certainly wouldn't be fun if we didn't allow it!

Can I play a senior?

Of course! You're more than welcome to play any grade in high school that you might like. However, one thing to keep in mind is that this journaling project is only for students at ACSH. Therefore, once June pulls around and it's graduation, that student will be unplayable as they won't be a part of the high school anymore.

We'll let seniors in, of course! However, that's just something to keep in mind.
